Understanding the World, Understanding Ourselves – Grade 5

Immigration: Understanding the World, Understanding Ourselves – Grade 5

In today’s borderless world, everything is interconnected! Our Grade 5 students explored an important global issue under the topic “Immigration”, seeking to understand:

“Why do people travel far to find a new home?”

Exploring the Reasons Behind Migration

Students learned to identify key factors influencing migration through the concepts of Push & Pull Factors:

Push Factors: Reasons that drive people away, such as war, poverty, or natural disasters.

Pull Factors: Reasons that attract people to a new place, such as educational opportunities, stable careers, and a better quality of life.

Active Learning Activities to Develop Analytical Skills

Beyond learning key vocabulary such as Migration, Immigration, and Emigration, students engaged in:

  • Brainstorming: “Why do people move?”
  • Case Studies: Analyzing real-life global situations
  • Open-Ended Discussions: Debating the question,

“Is immigration beneficial or challenging for a country?”

Learning Outcomes

Students gained a systematic understanding of the causes and impacts of immigration while developing their English communication and critical thinking skills. They confidently expressed their opinions on contemporary social issues with reasoning and clarity.

At Wachirawit Chiang Mai School, we are committed to nurturing Global Citizens who understand diversity and are ready to grow in an ever-changing world.
